Art Aquarium

What started as the summer’s most spectacular goldfish event is now a permanent museum, and it just got a makeover that makes everything that was getting old, new again. With a new route and new aquarium attractions, it’s time to go again, even if you’ve been before!

The exhibits start off with a sweeping larger-than-life ikebana extravaganza that makes you feel like you’re inside one of Japan’s iconic flower sculptures…

but with goldfish. As the colors change all around, it’s the fish who are the stars of this show…

even when the bamboo sculptures and crystal cubes take on a rainbow of hues.

Next up is the lantern-lit hall of exotic goldfish, their pristine cubes of water reflected endlessly in a mirrored infinity room…

Each tank showcases a single variety, as they languidly fin their way around seasonal foliage…

and the end of this hall presents the first magnificent goldfish bowl fountain.

Bubbling pillars of goldfish guard a torii gate tunnel to the next new attraction…

the smoking disco bathtub! I predict you’ll get stuck here quite a while, mesmerized by the goldfish swimming through the clouds and the ever-changing shimmer of the disco bubble rising from the tub

Next up is an animated seasonal landscape backdropping a traditional stone lantern filled with fish…

and the tiers of rippling waterfall tanks that cycle through every color of the rainbow

Beyond is a grander hall of color-changing goldfish pillars…

leading to showcase tanks of prized specimens…

“Birdcage” by Harue Koga

and a wall of splendid brocaded baubles…

that feature more exotic breeds.

As we near the end of our goldfish journey, the unchanged maze of hanging wisteria and goldfish bowls bring the fish up close and personal…

and the grand finale fountain not only changes color…

it’s wreathed in magical steam
