If you love origami, this four-story center is a must-see. Not only can you learn how they make origami paper and ogle some amazing examples of the art of paper folding, they also sell a huge selection of Japanese paper, and sponsor how-to workshops & art exhibits.
The paper they sell there isn’t just origami squares – they also have traditional scenes printed on washi paper, like geisha portraits, kabuki figures and demons beautiful enough to frame or put on a screen. And if you’d like to see how they print the paper, head up to the fourth floor to watch the artisans at work!
The first floor is a gallery space where they exhibit the work of various paper artists, like this rainbow of cranes folded from a continuous sheet of paper…

or this Japanese flag
There are always unusual examples of the paper-folder’s art…

and techniques you’ve never seen before…

You’ll be amazed at just how varied origami can be!
The shop is also a delight, offering everything from frame-worthy prints at a fraction of the cost of woodblock prints you see in galleries…

to kits for folding everything from Childrens’ Day decorations to Christmas ornaments.

They also host many paper-centric events, like paper folding workshops and demonstrations by master origami teachers. The calendar (in Japanese) is here.
