A very good reason to come to Japan in July is that there are excellent festivals and events that happen only once a year! July is also a fine time to beat the crowds and price increases that cluster around the high season at cherry blossom time at the end of March and early April.

Lotus Festivities at Sankei-en Garden

There are special early opening hours so you can view the flowers before they close up again, along with demonstrations of things I did not know you could do with a lotus leaf
