How to get there:

By JR Yamanote line train:

•Get off at Komagome Station

•Follow the signs inside the station to the Rikugi-en exit.

•Outside, a big street runs past the station. Cross the street, turn left, go over the train tracks, and walk along the street.

•At the end of the block, cross the little street and you be on a corner with a big gated entrance to Rikugi-en. Sometimes you can go in here and sometimes you can’t. When this entrance is closed, you have to walk along the big street for a block and turn right into a little street (well-marked to Rikugi-en with English signage).

By Namboku subway line:

•Follow the station signage to the Rikugi-en exit. Go up the stairs and out onto the plaza.

•Diagonally across the intersection, you will see the corner with the big wooden Rikugi-en gate. Sometimes you can go in by this gate and sometimes you can’t. When this entrance is closed, continue walking  along the big street for a block and turn right into a little street (well-marked to Rikugi-en with English signage). You’ll see the entry on your right.

If you walk the other direction from the station, you get to Shimofuri Shopping Street 🔎 Google map on your left. There are many storefronts selling take-out lunch items, plus a really excellent soba noodle shop about two blocks in. (The soba shop is on the left and has a big water wheel in the window – you can’t miss it. This street also has a fresh tofu maker, many fishmongers, a geta and kimono shop, a wonderful housewares shop, and lots of other typical Japanese businesses.

Past Shimofuri a few more blocks is Kyu-Furukawa Gardens. 🔎 Google map Famous for roses in June, it also has a very nice Japanese garden.
